You can add navigation to a 2016 Mazda6 just by purchasing the required SD card (on Amazon for $65.00) and inserting it into the slot in the center console?
The dealers charge around $300.00 for the card and then a half hour of labor to “install” it.
Got it for this spring, when my friend and I are going hiking in eastern Kentucky where there is little to no cell phone reception.
Three years of free map updates are available via the Mazda Tools app that you can install on your computer.
Before the SD card, this is what you get when you hit the “nav” button:
I just inserted the card last night. Haven’t had a chance to check it for updates yet. It seems to be pretty updated already, though, with several newer streets around me already listed.
If only they’d release the upgrade to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Come on, Mazda.

Honestly, I just want vehicle manufacturers to have to follow a specific set of standards when implementing infotainment and nav systems into their vehicles, much like how we have the ATX specification for computers that basically guarantees that whatever motherboard you buy has a standard set of connectors common to all motherboards.

They’re that cheap on Amazon? Well shit, I might buy one for my MX5. Assuming its the same part and/or its just as cheap.

Damn. That’s a top-tip. Better hope the front page doesn’t get hold of this or Mazda might stop it.
That being said, no wonder navigation is included on 2017.5 Touring models.

I got the last one at $65.00 but there’s another on there for $99.00. There are several on eBay, too. I just went with Amazon for ease of return if it became necessary.
Once you drive 62 or 63 miles (can’t remember which), it becomes “locked” to the car and can’t be transferred. So I steered clear of used ones.

Coming in with the pro tips.
I go on a quite a few road trips, so it’d be nice not to suck up cell data.

Did you know that button in the lower right hand corner downloads the snap to your camera roll so you don’t have to screen shot?

That’s very cool, though does it do traffic? I don’t think I could regularly use a GPS that doesn’t take traffic into account...

Yeah. I just screen shotted out of habit.

What? I’ve looked every so often for my 3 but the cheapest I ever saw was $250. I just wanted it so the nav button didn’t tell me to go buy a map

I wonder if it’s possible to torrent this?

Another option is to use Google maps in offline mode. I only have 2GB of data per month so I have to avoid using it for mapping, and offline mode does the trick (as long as I remember to turn off cellular data before using it). In addition, my phone has a larger screen than my old GPS making it easier to see.

I actually just upgraded to 27GBs (with 3 people). Thanks for the tip though.

I just upgraded to 6GB for the three of us from 3GB. Considering that I’m really the only one that uses any data I don’t feel bad about using the monthly rollover, but I try to keep to my allotted amount. I sure do miss the unlimited data I used to have, but the savings is worth cutting back. Like money, when you have a limited amount of data you learn to be quite discretionary when using it. It also changes ones eating habits - I prefer to go to places that have free Wi-Fi...

On Fiesta’s, if you have Forscan you can unlock it for free.

It’s the same - bought one for my ND. And it allows me to get 3 years of updates.
I paid $61. Cheapest I see on ebay is $79. Still better than the $400 the dealer wanted

Hello! :)

Yeah. Check Amazon and eBay. Mine came with three years of free map updates, so I am good until 2/22/2021. I’m using my wife’s MacBook to update mine right now.

The car itself has an HD Radio traffic map, but it only works in bigger cities. Not the small town I live in.

Or, you could have googled Mazda AIO, bought an SD card for $15-20 and installed nav.

Preferred to do it the legal way and with the included three years free map updates. $65 wasn’t a bad price.

Yeah $65 isn’t bad. Mine came included with my tech package. Have a 16 touring with tech, sunroof and afs. Not too fond of the infotainment system anymore.
